The story of Grupo Chicapalá begins not in 1999, but years earlier, in the heart of a musically gifted family. Fernando Sánchez Zamora was born on January 1st in the small Oaxacan town of Chicapa de Castro, from which he would later derive his artistic name. He is the fifth of nine children born to Don Oliverio Sánchez Luis, a professional musician, and Doña Francisca Zamora Cano.
